Volleyball Upsets Florida State In Five Games, 3-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball upended Florida State Saturday night in five games in Reynolds Gym. The Deacons climbed out of a hole to come back and win the last three games to take the match. The win solidifies Wake's fourth place standing in the ACC. Wake improves to 16-8 overall and 9-5 in the ACC. Florida State drops to 12-11 overall and 8-6 in the ACC.
Tough serving from Seminole Kristin Frye, totaling two service aces helped lead Florida State to an early 30-21 win in the first game. Florida State came out and took the second game with leaders Erica Bunch recording five kills and Alexandra Sevillano totaled two service aces of her own.
Wake Forest turned the tables in the third and posted its first win of the night, 30-28. Trina Maso de Moya tallied five kills and three digs. Katy de Roeck registered five digs and Amber Rieg served up an ace for the Deacs.
The Demon Deacons kept the momentum going and took the fourth game 30-27 with key blocking from Margaret Davidson, three assisted. Maso de Moya posted six kills and five digs and reserve Sara Beth DeLisle came in to contribute two key kills and a dig on the outside.
Wake Forest closed out the match with a final score of 15-8 against a stunned Seminole team. Maso de Moya was in double figures tallying 26 kills and 29 digs for the night. Davidson contributed 17 kills and seven block assists. Ashley Fisher recorded 16 digs and de Roeck had 14 of her own. Jessica Hauff posted eight kills, three digs and had three crucial blocks. Kim Stern subbed in to contribute seven kills and two block assists as well.
Head coach Valorie Baker was proud of her team's focus and determination to win the game.
"I am very proud of the girls that came in and worked hard," said Baker. "Not only did they earn their win but also they worked for it. They deserved it!"
The Demon Deacons are back in action tomorrow hosting Virginia at 5 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
