Deacons Sign Four In Early Volleyball Signing Period

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball inks four during the early signing period for next season. The Demon Deacons will add two Illinois natives on scholarship, Erin Borhart of Huntley and Christy Williams of Chicago. Klarysa Henry of Houston, Texas and Courtney Quay of Bloomfield, Mich. will walk-on to the Deacon squad as well.
Erin Borhart
Borhart is a graduate of Huntley High School in Huntley, Ill. She was coached by Larry Kahl, the father of Wake's assistant coach Heather Kahl. Huntley enjoyed a 34-7 record this season.
The 6 ft. setter played seven years on Sky High Club Team and earned an array of accolades during her high school career.
Borhart was named to the Big Northern All-Conference team for all four years of her high school career. She received the Northwest Herald Player of the Year in 2001. She was named Dailey Herald All-Area co-captain in 2000 and 2001 and as well received All-State honorable mention both years. She was named MVP of her high school team in 2000 and 2001.
In 2000, Borhart made the Northwest Herald All-Area first team. She was named to the Fox Valley All-Area first team in 1999 and received honorable mention in 1998. Other honorable mentions in 1998 include to the Northwest Herald All-Area team and the Elgin Courier All-Area team.
Borhart will challenge for the setter position with Ashlee Phillips who will be a senior next year. She was born Nov. 15, 1983 and is the daughter of Len and Anne Borhart.
Christy Williams
Williams graduated from Loyola Academy in Chicago, Ill. The 6 ft. middle blocker played on the nationally ranked Sports Performance Club Team for two years. Redshirt freshman Valerie Rydberg played for Sports Performance for seven years as well.
In 2000, the Sports Performance Club Team was the National Junior Classic 17s Division Champions, AAU National Champions and finished ninth at the USAV Junior Olympics. Williams earned All-American honors with 30 kills, 14 block assists and 13 solo blocks at the AAU Nationals.
For Loyola, Williams earned All-Conference honors in 2001 and 2000. She received All-Area first team honors in 2001 and second team in 2000. Williams' recorded 312 kills and 40 solo blocks in her senior season.
Williams was born on Oct. 26, 1984 and is the daughter of Wayne and Betty Williams.
