Greensboro, N.C. -
Wake Forest junior Janet Bergman (Pinehurst, N.C.) was named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. It was the second such honor of the season for Bergman, as she was named Player of the Week on Feb. 26 as well.
Last week Bergman posted singles and doubles wins as the team won a dual match, 4-3 over ACC rival Florida State. Playing No. 2 singles, Bergman, ranked 20th nationally, defeated 48th-ranked Alida Gallovits of FSU in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. She also paired up with teammate Maren Haus to post an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Bergman's singles win marked her 10th victory over a ranked opponent this season. She has posted a 23-9 record in singles matches so far this season, and is a perfect 3-0 against league opponents. She already ranks seventh on Wake's all-time wins chart with 92 career singles victories.
A Wake Forest player has been named ACC Player of the Week three times this season, as Bea Bielik also earned the honor on March 5.
Bergman and the rest of the Demon Deacon squad return to action on Wednesday, March 28, when they host NC State at Leighton Tennis Stadium. The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
