Wake Forest Falls To No. 3 Duke

DURHAM, NC - The 42nd ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team lost 6-1 at No. 3 Duke Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Devils won the doubles point and then took five of six singles matches. The Demon Deacon's lone senior, Raul Munoz, upset the ninth ranked singles player in the nation, Duke's Phillip King, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Trent Brendon and doubles partner David Loewenthal topped Duke's Marko Cerenko and Ted Rueger 8-6 in the number three doubles match, but the Blue Devils won the first two, earning the doubles point. Wake's Mike Murray and Raul Munoz lost 8-2 to Phillip King and Ramsey Smith, while Justin Kaufmann and David Bere fell 8-5 to Michael Yani and Andres Pedroso.
Munoz was the only Deacon to pick up a victory in singles play. Murray lost 6-0, 6-3 in the number two match to the Duke's Ramsey Smith, who is ranked seventh in the nation. Loewenthal lost 6-1, 6-2 to No. 14 Marko Cerenko in the number three match. Bere fell 6-2, 7-6 (3) to No. 28 Andres Pedroso in the number four match. Brendon was beaten by Joel Spicher 7-5, 6-2 and Kaufmann fell 6-4, 6-0 to Alex Bose.
The Blue Devils improve to 12-3 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC. Wake Forest falls to 9-6 on the year and 2-2 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons will return to action this weekend when they host No. 60 Virginia Tech at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31 and No. 57 William & Mary at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1.
