Wake Forest Falls to Virginia in National Semifinals

The Demon Deacons concluded the 2026 campaign with 34 wins and an ACC Championship.
ATHENS, Ga. - The top-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team saw its historic 2026 campaign come to a close with a 4-3 loss to fourth-seeded Virginia Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Semifinals at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Despite the defeat, the Demon Deacons concluded another remarkable season with a 34-4 overall record, an ACC Championship and the program's fifth NCAA semifinal appearance, all coming since 2018.
Wake Forest additionally finished the year with 24 ranked victories, including five against top-10 opponents, while advancing to at least the national semifinals for the third-consecutive season.
Wake Forest also continued its dominance in doubles play, securing the opening point for the 27th-consecutive match and for the 35th time this season with victories on courts one and two.
The nation's top-ranked doubles duo of Andrew Delgado and DK Suresh Ekambaram earned another statement victory with a 6-3 win over No. 12 Dahlberg/Dietrich on court one. The pair finished the season a perfect 15-0 together while recording seven ranked wins and six victories over top-25 opponents.
The win also marked Suresh's 100th career doubles victory, moving him into fourth place in program history.
Career Doubles Wins - Wake Forest History
Mees Rottgering and Kacper Szymkowiak capped off their undefeated doubles campaign with a 6-4 victory over Santamarta/Kim on court two, finishing the season 16-0 overall.
In singles play, No. 38 Rottgering closed out his freshman season in impressive fashion with a straight-set victory over No. 21 Keegan Rice on court two, while Szymkowiak added another point for the Deacs with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Mans Dahlberg on court six.
Virginia ultimately claimed victories on courts one, three, four and five, with the deciding point coming in a three-set battle on court four.
