Greensboro, N.C. - Wake Forest senior forward Olivia Dardy was named to the ACC All-Tournament second team at the conclusion of the championship on Monday night. The team was selected by a vote of media covering the event at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Dardy exploded for a career-high 30 points in Wake Forest's first-round game against top-seeded Duke, the eventual tournament champions. Her scoring output was the top single-game performance of the entire 2001 Tournament. It also shattered her own career-high of 27 points, which she set just five days prior in the regular season finale versus Georgia Tech. (Her career high prior to last week was 26 points, set in the 1998 ACC Tournament against Georgia Tech.)
Dardy's performance was the first time since 1996 that a Demon Deacon has scored 30 points in a game. Tracy Connor was the last one to reach that mark with a 31-point effort versus North Carolina on Jan. 8, 1996.
Dardy broke Wake Forest's ACC Tournament single-game record of 27 points, set by Beth Davis in the 1991 quarterfinals versus NC State, and, with a 12-of-18 performance from the field, she also broke the school's single-game ACC tournament record of 11 field goals, which she set herself in a 1998 first round win over Georgia Tech.
Against the Blue Devils in the Tournament, Dardy pulled down eight rebounds and led the Deacs with five assists. She also went 6-of-6 from the line as Wake lost to Duke in overtime, 75-68. It was the closest game of the 2001 ACC Tournament.
Dardy becomes the sixth player in WFU history to be named to an ACC All-Tournament team. Another current senior, Janae Whiteside, was the last such selection, earning first-team honors in 1999.
