Women's Tennis Defeats Virginia, 5-2, On the Road

Charlottesville, Va. - The 18th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team posted its sixth conference victory of the season with a 5-2 victory at Virginia on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Wake Forest improves to 13-7 overall, 6-1 in the ACC. Virginia drops to 13-9 overall and 2-5 in the ACC.
Wake notched the first point of the match by taking No.1 and No. 2 doubles for the doubles point. The duo of Bea Bielik (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Janet Bergman (Pinehurst, N.C.), ranked sixth nationally, won easily at No. 1, 8-1. Wake's No. 2 tandem of Maren Haus (Brielle, N.J.) and Aimee Smith (Norcross, Ga.), ranked 37th, also picked up an 8-6 victory to secure the first point of the match.
Wake Forest then dominated the top four slots of the singles portion of the match, winning in straight sets at all four positions. Bielik, ranked third nationally, defeated Amy O'Donnell, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1, while 24th-ranked Bergman had no trouble at No. 2, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Henriette Williams. At No. 3 singles, Haus topped Christie Schweer, 6-3, 6-3, while Wake's Jackie Houston (Kings Mountain, N.C.) defeated Jennifer Tuchband, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.
The Deacons play their final regular season match on Sunday, when they take on the Maryland Terrapins in College Park. Match time is set for 12 noon.
