Volleyball Splits Versus UT-Arlington and Wyoming

LARAMIE, WY - The Wake Forest volleyball team finished even in tournament play this weekend, defeating UT-Arlington (3-1) and falling to Wyoming (0-3). The Demon Deacons are now 5-2 for the season.
The Demon Deacons dropped the first game to the Mavericks but bounced back to win the following three games scoring 29-31, 30-26, 30-24 and 30-27. Wake Forest stepped up its intensity with action from multiple players. Junior setter Ashlee Phillips led the Deacon offense with 58 assists. Senior Trina Maso de Moya posted 15 kills and 17 digs, sophomore Ashley Fisher and sophomore Jessica Hauff both reported 14 kills and 12 digs. Other contributors were senior Margaret Davidson with 15 kills and sophomore Sara Beth DeLisle with 10 kills.
Wake Forest dropped its second game of the season to the Wyoming Cowgirls, 19-30, 28-30 and 24-30 in its second match of the Wyoming Invitational. The Cowgirls are now 4-2 for the season. The Deacons couldn't pull through against the Cowgirl offense that totaled 53 kills and 42 digs for the match. Maso de Moya led the team with nine kills and 13 digs.
The Deacons have a couple of days to recover from their loss until they travel to Columbia, S.C. to participate in the South Carolina Invitational next Friday, Sept. 14. Wake Forest takes on Michigan State at noon and Jacksonville State at 3 p.m. on Sept. 14th and South Carolina the following day at 11 a.m.
