The Wake Forest women's soccer squad lost its first Atlantic Coast Conference match of the season, falling to Clemson, 2-1. With the loss, the Demon Deacons slip to 11-3-1 and 2-1-1 in the conference, while the Lady Tigers improve to 9-5, 3-2 in league play.
Clemson took a 1-0 advantage on Heather Beem's goal at the 7:30 mark. Wake Forest scored 1:13 seconds later on an Alena Thom 35-yard shot from the middle. Katie Johnson was credited with the assist.
The Lady Tigers scored the game-winner just before the half at the 43:03 mark. Lindsay Browne sent a pass to Arrington who scored from 12 yards out on a diagonal shot.
Clemson is only the second team to out shoot Wake Forest this season, as the Lady Tigers held a 13-10 advantage. Thom continues to be a dominant force on the field, leading the team with four shots, including two shots on goal. A.B. Robbins and Alli Hunt were credited with two shots apiece, while keeper Erin Regan recorded four saves.
Wake Forest will return to Spry Stadium to close out the final four games of the 2002 season this Sunday. The Demon Deacons will face their last non-conference opponent on the schedule, Colorado College, at 1:00 pm.
