Women's Tennis Collects Two Letters of Commitment For Next Year

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest women's tennis coach Brian Fleishman announced today that he has received signed letters of commitment from Ashlee Davis and Alexandra Hirsch to play tennis at Wake Forest next year. Davis, who hails from Anderson, Ind., is the top-ranked player in the state of Indiana. She is ranked sixth in the Midwest Section and is ranked 24th in the nation. Hirsch, an Atlanta native, is the top-ranked player in both the state of Georgia and the Southern Section. She is ranked 23rd in the nation and is listed 138th in the International Tennis Federation's world junior singles rankings.
"These two girls will add depth and more competitiveness to the program," Fleishman said. "Alexandra and Ashlee will be key ingredients to Wake Forest winning an ACC Championship as well as a national championship. Both girls know how to win."
Davis won a national tournament in singles and captured singles championships at the 1999 CRC Club, 2000 Mid-Tac, 2001 and 2002 USTA Midwest Designated, 2002 MWTA Qualifier, 2002 USTA St. Louis Gateway and won the back draw at the 2001 National Open. A singles finalist at the 2000 Jr. Girls Championships, 2000 Midwest Open and 2002 Copper Bowl, Davis was also a doubles finalist at the 2001 International Grass Courts. Davis was a singles semifinalist at the 1999 CITA Qualifier, 2000, 2001 and 2002 Midwest Closed, 2000 USTA Midwest Designated, 2002 K-Swiss and a doubles semifinalist at the 1998 Ata National Championships and the 2002 USTA International Hard Courts.
Hirsch captured singles championships at the 2002 STA Closed, 2002 Bullfrog, 2001 Atlanta Chanda Rubin Classic, 2001 Junior Spring Fling and was the doubles champion at the 2001 Atlanta Chanda Rubin Classic. She was a singles finalist at the 2002 Van Der Meer Chanda Rubin, 2001 USTA Supernational Winter Championships, 2001 STA GA Closed and was the backdraw finalist at the 2001 USTA Super National Easter Bowl. Hirsch was also a singles semifinalist at the 2001 South Carolina Chanda Rubin American ITF Circuit, 2001 USTA Supernational Clay Courts, 2001 Franklin Winter and took third place in doubles at the 2002 USTA Supernational Hard Court Championships.
