Volleyball Signs Two For 2003

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball coach Valorie Baker announced Wednesday that Jenna Doane and Lauren Peterson have signed official letters of commitment to play volleyball at Wake Forest next fall. Peterson, an outside hitter from Arlington, Texas, is a senior Lamar High. Doane, a rightside hitter from Mesa, Ariz., is a senior at Mountain View High.
"Both Jenna and Lauren are very talented players who play for very competitive clubs," Baker said. "I look for both players to come in as freshmen and challenge our upperclassmen. Lauren and Jenna will be great additions to our program and we look forward to coaching both girls here at Wake Forest."
Doane plays club volleyball for the Arizona East Valley Juniors and helped her squad reach the Junior Nationals last summer, where they placed 21st in the nation. Named the MVP on the freshman team that won the city championship, Doane is a three-year letterwinner on the varsity squad at Mountain View High, which finished this past season ranked third in the state. A second team all-region selection her junior year she earned first team honors as a senior. Doane was picked to the all-tournament teams at the two biggest high school tournaments in the state of Arizona her senior year - Goldwater, which her team won and Westwood, which her team took third.
Peterson plays club volleyball with Texas Advantage and helped her team finish 19th at the 2002 U-18 National Championships. She has led Lamar High to three straight regional quarterfinals and finished her senior season with over 300 kills and 230 digs. A two-time Arlington Morning News Girls Athlete of the Week selection as a senior, Peterson earned all-district honors her junior year. Peterson is a two-time all-tournament team selection at the 34-team Arlington Invitational and was picked to the all-tournament team at the New Braunfels Volleyfest her junior season as well as being named the tournament MVP at Lewisville her sophomore year. She was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year as both a sophomore and a junior. In addition to being picked by the coaches as the 2000 District 8-5A Newcomer of the Year, Peterson was named the Newcomer of the Year by both the Arlington Morning News and the Ft. Worth Star Telegram. A member of the National Honor Society, Peterson is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class of 500.
High School state and district awards for this season have not been announced yet.
