Williams Named ACC Volleyball Rookie of the Year

ATLANTA - Wake Forest volleyball player, Christy Williams, was selected by the nine ACC volleyball coaches to the ACC All-Freshman team and was also named the ACC Rookie of the Year Thursday afternoon at the ACC Volleyball Championship Luncheon at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Atlanta, Ga. The 6-1 true freshman from Chicago, Ill., is the first Demon Deacon to earn the ACC Rookie of the Year honor in the program's history.
Williams has played in almost every match this season, starting eight, and has seen action in more than half the games. She leads the team with a .351 attack percentage in conference games, is second on the squad with a .337 attack percentage in all games, second on the club with .94 blocks per game and is third on the team with 2.59 kills per game.
Hitting .333 with six kills and only two errors, plus three blocks in three games against #12 North Carolina Nov. 9, Williams hit .462 with eight kills and only two errors in two games of 3-0 win over NC State Nov. 8. She came off the bench to provide nine kills, hitting .500, and four blocks in two games of a 3-0 win at Virginia Nov. 2 and came off bench to lead team with eight kills at Maryland Oct. 29.
Providing six kills and four blocks against Duke Oct. 25, Williams fired a .455 attack percentage at East Tennessee State Oct. 22 with six kills and only one error to go with one ace and two blocks. She hit .455 against Florida State Oct. 20, putting away six kills in only one game and nailed 11 kills against #20 Georgia Tech Oct. 19.
Williams hit .385 in a 3-0 win over Clemson Oct. 15, posting 12 kills and four blocks and added seven kills at NC State Oct. 12. She totaled eight kills and two blocks at #11 North Carolina Oct. 11 and led the team with 19 kills and 12 blocks against Liberty Oct. 8, including a then-school record 10 block assists. Williams hit .400 against Maryland Oct. 5, nailing six kills to go with a block and four digs and put away six kills to go with two blocks in three games at Florida State Sept. 27.
Credited with three blocks in addition to a .400 attack percentage with six kills on 10 attempts and only two errors in one game of the 3-0 win at Duke Sept. 24, Williams got the starting call against San Diego State Sept. 21 and responded with eight kills, four digs and four blocks. She had breakout performance at the Kentucky Tournament, registering 24 kills, 10 digs and 14 blocks over nine games and led the team with 13 kills and eight blocks against Dayton Sept. 14
Wake Forest, 13-17 overall and 6-10 in the ACC, finished seventh in the league and enters the conference tournament as the seven seed, where it will face the two seed and tournament's host, No. 20 Georgia Tech (28-5, 13-3 ACC) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
