Volleyball Falls 3-1 To No. 12 North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team took 12th-ranked North Carolina to four games, losing 3-1 Saturday night at Reynolds Gym. Falling behind 30-28, 30-21, the Demon Deacons rallied to take game three 30-27. The Tar Heels won the match with a 30-25 victory in game four. The last home conference match of the year, Wake Forest honored its two seniors, Ashlee Phillips and Amanda Tiller, in a pregame ceremony before the largest home crowd of the season - 1,419.
Wake Forest did not go down quietly, as the Demon Deacons never trailed by more than nine points throughout the match and led at one point in every game.
Junior outside hitter Sara Beth DeLisle led Wake Forest with 14 kills and 21 digs to go with four blocks. Junior middle blocker Jessica Hauff hit a blazing .480 attack percentage with 12 kills and no errors to go with five blocks. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valerie Rydberg posted 12 kills, 10 digs, one service aces and three blocks - including two solo stuffs. Phillips set 55 assists to go with 18 digs, three blocks, one ace and six kills. Freshman middle blocker Christy Williams came off the bench to provide six kills and three blocks in three games.
Molly Pyles led North Carolina with 23 kills, hitting .300 and coming up with 11 digs. Laura Green led the way defensively with 16 digs to go with 15 kills. Eve Rackham distributed 58 assists in addition to eight digs and three blocks while Aletha Green posted five blocks and 13 kills.
North Carolina improves to 25-2 overall and 12-1 in the ACC with the win and Wake Forest falls to 13-15 overall and 6-8 in the ACC with the loss. The Demon Deacons return to action next week when they travel to Atlanta to face No. 24 Georgia Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 before taking on Clemson at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 in Clemson, S.C.
