WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Chris Ellis scored 14 points and Vytas Danelius added 12 to lead a balanced scoring attack as No. 23 Wake Forest beat Bethune-Cookman 96-54 Monday night.

Six players scored in double figures as the Demon Deacons (8-0) defeated their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent in three days and raised their record to 11-0 all-time against MEAC teams. Wake Forest beat North Carolina A&T 104-64 Saturday.

The Deacons took control early with a 16-0 run. Justin Gray's runner in the lane made it 22-4.

The Wildcats (1-6) closed to 24-10 on consecutive baskets from Richard Toussaint, who scored 25 points. But Wake Forest finished the half with a 15-4 run. Josh Howard had eight points during the run and Danelius had seven.

Wake Forest twice led by 46 in the final four minutes.

The Demon Deacons, who had a 44-28 advantage on the boards, have outrebounded every opponent this season. The Wildcats' three tallest frontcourt players fouled out trying to contain Wake's inside game.

Wake's stifling defense limited Bethune-Cookman to 7-of-26 shooting in the first half. Toussaint led the Wildcats with eight points at the break on 4-of-8 shooting.

The Demon Deacons' start is one of their best in the last decade. They started 13-0 in 1996-97 and 12-0 in 2000-01.
