Jennifer Averill Named South Region Coach of the Year

Wake Forest head field hockey coach Jennifer Averill was tabbed 2002 Dita/NFHCA Division I South Region Coach of the Year, as announced by the NFHCA on Thursday. Averill receives the honor after guiding the Demon Deacons to their first-ever national championship last month.
In her 11th season as head coach, Averill was named ACC Coach of the Year and helped the Deacs to their most successful campaign ever in 2002. The team won its first ACC Championship and got its first 20-win season, en route to a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Semifinals and the National Championship.
The 2002 Dita/NFHCA Division I National Coach of the Year will be announced on January 11 at the NFHCA Awards Luncheon in Galloway, N.J.
