Wake Forest vs. Wisconsin December 4, 2002 - Postgame Notes

Wake Forest's win tonight gives the Deacons... ... a 3-0 start for the fourth straight season ... a perfect 4-0 record in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge ... a 2-0 all-time record versus Wisconsin and a 12-13 mark against the Big Ten overall ... a 24-13 record in two seasons under head coach Skip Prosser ... a 1-0 record against nationally-ranked teams this season ... an end to their four-game losing streak against nationally-ranked teams, beating a ranked opponent for the first time since a 92-70 win over No. 15 Virginia on Feb. 17, 2002 ... their first win on the road against a nationally-ranked team since a 64-61 win at No. 21 Clemson on Jan. 9, 1999 ... an end to their three-game road losing streak dating back to last season ... an all-time record of 1,261-985 ... a 22-5 record under Prosser when the Deacons lead at halftime

Wake Forest has used the same starting lineup - Gray, Downey, E. Williams, Howard and Danelius - in all three games this season. The Deacons used eight different starting lineups last season.

Senior Josh Howard played in his 99th career game and started for the 91st career time tonight. He will play in career game No. 100 Dec. 15 when Wake hosts SMU.

Howard scored a career-high tonight. His previous career-best was 24 points, which he scored twice previously in his career - vs. North Carolina at home last season and at Maryland in 2000-01. Howard scored in double figures for the third time this season, the 63rd time in his career.

Howard's point total was the highest by a Deacon since Craig Dawson scored 38 at Clemson on Feb. 13, 2002. It was the second-highest total by a Deacon in the Skip Prosser era.

Howard, who entered tonight's game with 1,193 career points, became the 28th player in Wake Forest history to reach the 1,200-point plateau. Tonight, Howard moved into 26th place on Wake's all-time career scoring chart, passing both Dickie Walker (1,201 points) and Mark Cline (1,202 points).

Howard, Justin Gray and Taron Downey have all made at least one three-point field goal in every game this season.

Downey scored in double figures for the fourth straight game dating back to last season. He has scored in double figures eight times in his two-year career.

Gray scored a career-high (previously 10). Gray scored in double figures for the second time in three collegiate games.

Freshman Chris Ellis scored a career-high tonight (previously four points).

Sophomore Vytas Danelius didn't make a field goal until the 7:15 mark of the second half.
