Kaufmann Named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

The Atlantic Coast Conference named Justin Kaufmann, a senior on the Wake Forest men's tennis team, the Men's Tennis Player of the Week Monday afternoon. Kaufmann, a native of Mission Hills, KS, went undefeated last week in both singles and doubles play, leading the Demon Deacons to a pair of wins over No. 50 Purdue and No. 61 San Diego in San Diego, CA. Wake Forest, 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, stopped the Boilermakers 5-2 on Thursday and then dropped the Toreros 6-1 on Saturday.
Kaufmann, playing in the No. 6 singles position, beat Troy Havens of Purdue 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 on Thursday and then defeated San Diego's Martin Linusson 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 on Saturday. In doubles action, Kaufmann and teammate David Bere (Jr., Midland, MI) handed Purdue's Derek Miller and Andrew Wakefield an 8-4 setback in the No. 3 match Thursday and then blasted Rob Blair and Martin Linusson from San Diego, 8-2 in Saturday's No. 3 doubles match.
The Demon Deacons return to action this weekend when they play at Virginia on Saturday and at Maryland on Sunday. Wake Forest will return home the following week, when it hosts No. 55 Brown on Tuesday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m. and No. 14 Duke on Wednesday, March 27 at 5:00 p.m. on the outdoor courts of Leighton Stadium.
