
Men's Tennis Rolls Past #55 Brown 7-0

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated No. 55 Brown 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The 22nd-ranked Demon Deacons won two of three doubles matches to capture the team point and jump out to an early 1-0 lead. The Bears put up a good fight in singles, taking the first three matches to three sets, but Brown could not avoid getting swept by Wake Forest.
Derrick Spice won the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, giving the freshman from Olmsted, OH 31 singles victories on the season, a new Wake Forest record. He and teammate Mike Murray picked up a 9-8 (3) win in the No. 2 doubles match also. David Loewenthal and Trent Brendon, the 43rd-ranked doubles team, made quick work of Brown's No. 1 doubles team, winning 8-1.
Murray, Brendon and Justin Kaufmann all won their singles matches in straight sets, sealing the victory for the Demon Deacons. Loewenthal came back from behind to win the No. 1 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and David Bere fought back to take the No. 2 match 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4.
Wake Forest improves to 13-1 with the win and Brown falls to 7-8 with the loss. The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow, March 27 at 5:00 p.m., when they host No. 14 Duke on the outdoor courts of Leighton Stadium.
