Men's Tennis Bounces Clemson In ACC Quarterfinals, 4-1

RALEIGH, NC - The No. 3 seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons downed the No. 6 seed Clemson Tigers 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship. The match started at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. and after a two-hour rain delay was moved indoors to Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Deacons won the doubles point with victories from Loewenthal and Brendon at No. 1 and Bere and Kaufmann at No. 3. In singles action, Wake Forest rounded out the victory with wins from No. 3 Derrick Spice, No. 5 Mike Murray and No. 6 Justin Kaufmann.

For the Tigers, the lone victory came in No. 1 singles as Jamin Thompson downed David Loewenthal 7-6, 6-0.

The Deacs improve to 17-4 while Clemson drops to 11-18. Wake Forest will face North Carolina in tomorrow's semifinal match at 1:00 p.m.
