Pair Of Deacons Named To ACC 50th Anniversary Volleyball Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Volleyball Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.The 53-member team was voted on by the nine league institutions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.
One of the top athletes to come through the Wake Forest volleyball program, Trina Maso de Moya was selected for her accomplishments while playing for the Demon Deacons from 1998-2001. She set new career records in kills (1,848), attempts (4,785), kills per game (4.19), service aces (182), digs (2,010) and digs per game (4.56). Named ACC Player of the Year in 2000, Maso de Moya was named to the All-ACC first team three times. She made the All-ACC Freshman team as a rookie and earned AVCA All-District Team honors after her sophomore year. Maso de Moya was also named ACC Player of the Week six times in her career.
Pam Pounds, Wake Forest's first female All-ACC performer, earned a spot on this squad for her accomplishments while playing for the Demon Deacons from 1980-83. She was named All-ACC first team and was named Wake's outstanding female athlete of the year in 1983. Pounds participated on the gold medal-winning Empire Games team in 1979. Averaging 4.1 kills, 1.33 blocks and 3.72 digs her senior season, Pounds also averaged .401 hitting percentage, fifth in the country. She has been a player in the USVBA since graduation.
Third-year assistant coach Heather Kahl was also named to the squad, as one of Clemson's most successful players in school history. A setter for the Tigers from 1991-94, Kahl was named second team All-ACC and to the All-Tournament team in 1994. A member of 1994 AVCA South Region third team, Kahl was named to nine all-tournament teams. She is listed ninth on Clemson's all-time attempts list with 2,960, ranks second all-time in assists with 3,722 and fifth all-time in digs. Kahl is also third on Clemson's all-time assists per game list with 9.14 apg and fifth on the all-time digs per game.
Duke led all league schools with ten members on the Golden Anniversary team while Clemson and North Carolina were tied for second with seven honorees each.Georgia Tech, Maryland and NC State each had six players selected, followed by FloridaState (5), Virginia (4) and WakeForest with two.
