Bere Falls In Semifinals Of ITA Summer Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - David Bere, a returning senior on the Wake Forest men's tennis team, lost his semifinal match in the ITA National Summer Championships Open at Indiana University on Monday. The Midland, Mich., native won his quarterfinal match 6-3, 6-7 (10-6) over C.J. Weber from Eastern Illinois, but was then stopped by defending champion Wade Orr of Tennessee in the semifinals 7-6, 7-5.
Orr will play Chris Martin from Illinois in the finals.
The ITA National Summer Championships, presented by the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA), are the pinnacle of the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit. This event features amateur (mainly collegiate) players from throughout the country. The tournament concludes Wednesday.
The singles and doubles champions from the ITA National Summer Championships earn wild cards into the first national tournaments of the 2002-03 season - the Icy Hot/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in October (the finalists earn wild cards into the qualifying tournaments).
