SKILLMAN, N.J. - The 2002 Tennis Week/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Collegiate All-Star Team will be honored on Friday, August 23 at the historic West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, N.Y.

The ITA selected this 19th edition of the Tennis Week/ITA Collegiate All-Star Team, which includes the nation's top-ranked men's and women's tennis players at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA levels, as well as the winners of the 2001 Omni Hotels/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. This year's ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winners - Jessyca Arthur of the College of William & Mary and Daniel Klemetz of Middle Tennessee State University - will also be honored.

2002 ITA National Players of the Year Matias Boeker of the University of Georgia and Bea Bielik highlight this year's team. Boeker, also the 2001 ITA National Player of the Year, is the first two-time winner of the men's award, which dates back to 1980. In May Boeker became only the fourth player to win consecutive NCAA singles titles in the last 50 years and first since Georgia's Mikael Pernfors in 1984-85. Bielik captured her second national singles title of the season in May by winning the NCAA title. On her way to the title, she set an NCAA Championship record for fewest games lost (21). In November she won the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor title.

Joining Boeker on the men's team are: Andrew Colombo of Auburn, Harsh Mankad of Minnesota, K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford, Mark Kovacs of Auburn, Jan Krejci of BYU-Hawaii, Josh Lefkowitz of Williams (Mass.), Oliver Maiberger of San Diego State, Marcin Matkowski of UCLA, Ryan Redondo of San Diego State, Jean-Julian Rojer of UCLA and Renato Silveira of Georgia Perimeter.

Joining Bielik on the women's team are: Janet Bergman of Wake Forest, Elena Blanina of Methodist (N.C.), Lauren Kalvaria of Stanford, Zsofia Golopencza of Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.), Antonina Grib of Brenau (Ga.), Maria Claudia Herrera of Temple (Texas) College, Nikola Hubnerova of Broward (Fla.) Comm. College, Gabriela Lastra of Stanford, Jessica Lehnhoff of Florida, Petya Marinova of UCLA and Sara Walker of UCLA.

The All-Star Team will be treated by the ITA and Tennis Week magazine to a weekend in New York, highlighted by the Aug. 23 activities at the West Side Tennis Club. Following a continental breakfast at West Side, the Tennis Week/ITA All-Stars will participate in doubles play with guests from Tennis Week and the ITA. The Tennis Week/ITA All-Stars will then be honored at a special luncheon and presented their awards.

The ITA has selected an All-Star Team since 1984. Players honored in the past include: Paul Annacone, Nicole Arendt, George Bastl, Bob and Mike Bryan, Patty Fendick, Justin Gimelstob, Paul Goldstein, Laura Granville, Ginger Helgeson, Luke Jensen, Cecil Mamiit, Tim Mayotte, Todd Martin, Rick Leach, Jeff Morrison, Alex O'Brien, Lilia Osterloh, Mikael Pernfors, Lisa Raymond, Richey Reneberg, Sargis Sargsian, MaliVai Washington and Chris Woodruff.
