Twelve Golfers Represent WFU on ACC 50th Anniversary Team

The team was announced today by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. The 51-member squad was voted on by the nine league institutions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.

Wake Forest's representatives on the prestigious team include Billy Andrade, Jay Haas, Gary Hallberg, Scott Hoch, Joe Inman, Jack Lewis, Len Mattiace, Arnold Palmer, Jay Sigel and Curtis Strange, Leonard Thompson and Lanny Wadkins.

Wake Forest and Clemson led all league schools with 12 members each on the Golden Anniversary team while North Carolina and NC State were second with six honorees each. Duke had five players selected, followed by Georgia Tech with four and Maryland and Virginia with three apiece.

Billy Andrade, Wake Forest (1983-1987)
Four-time All-ACC selection ... led Wake to the 1986 NCAA Championship ... named third-team All-American in 1984 and earned honorable mention in 1985 and '86 ... won four collegiate titles ... 1985 North/South Amateur semifinalist ... 1987 Walker Cup team ... a PGA Tour member since 1988, posting four victories.

Jay Haas, Wake Forest (1973-1976)
1973 ACC Champion ... 1975 NCAA Champion ... four-time All-America selection (first-team in 1975, '76) ... led WFU to two National Championships (1974, '75) and four ACC crowns (1973-76) ... nine career PGA Tour victories ...ranks 31st on career money list ... 1983 and '95 Ryder Cup member ... WFU Hall of Fame.

Gary Hallberg, Wake Forest (1977-1980)
1979 NCAA Champion ... 1980 ACC Champion ... only four-time first-team All-American in WFU history ... four-time All-ACC selection ... member of the 1977 Walker Cup team ... won 12 collegiate tournaments ... owns three career PGA Tour victories ... inducted into the WFU Hall of Fame in 1995.

Scott Hoch, Wake Forest (1974-1978)
One of four ACC golfers to win the conference crown twice (1977, '78) ... two-time All-American and All-ACC ... led Wake to two ACC titles (1976, '78) ... nine career PGA Tour victories ... ranks among top 10 on all-time money list ... earned over $1 million in each of the past six seasons ... 1997 and 2001 Ryder Cup member.

Joe Inman, Wake Forest (1966-1969)
Three-time All-America (first-team, 1969) ... led Wake to three ACC titles (1967-69) ... 1969 North/South Champion ... placed third at 1968 NCAA Championships ... played on the PGA Tour from 1974-86, winning one event ... joined the Senior Tour in 1998 and named Rookie of the Year ... has captured three Senior titles.

Jack Lewis, Wake Forest (1966-1969)
Two-time All-American ... 1968 ACC Champion ... 1967 Walker Cup team ... 1966 U.S. Amateur runner-up ... 1968 North/South Champion ... placed fifth at 1968 NCAAs ... competed on PGA and Senior Tours ... Wake's head coach (1992-97), led the Deacs to six straight NCAA Championship appearances, including a runner-up finish in 1997.

Len Mattiace, Wake Forest (1986-1989)
A 1987 All-ACC selection and third-team All-American ... placed 14th at the 1986 NCAA Championships, helped lead the Deacons to the national title ... also finished 17th at the 1987 NCAAs ... a member of the 1989 ACC Championship team ... now in his ninth season on the PGA Tour ... posted five top-10 finishes in 2000 ... won the Nissan Open in February 2002 ... currently ranks 50th in All-Around Ranking on the PGA.
