Harrisonburg, Va. -

The Wake Forest field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to James Madison today at JMU??s Bridgeforth Stadium. With the loss, the Deacs fall to 1-2, while the Dukes remain undefeated at 3-0. Neither team has yet begun conference play.

Wake Forest controlled play for most of the first half, outshooting JMU, 10-3, but with less than a minute to play, the Dukes were able to get on the board. Sophomore Veerle Goudsward pushed a pass to junior Janelle Perlis, who put the ball in the open net to give JMU a 1-0 lead at halftime.

24 minutes into the second half, Perlis struck again, this time redirecting a Goudsward shot into the net to put the Dukes ahead, 2-0. Just seven minutes later, though, the Deacons got on the board when senior Maria Whitehead found junior Emily Ruth, who beat JMU goalkeeper Lori Amico to cut the lead to 2-1. The JMU defense held strong, though, and the Dukes held on for the 2-1 victory.

Wake Forest will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
