WFU Basketball Teams to Aid Piccolo Cancer Fund Drive

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Head basketball coaches Skip Prosser and Charlene Curtis and the Demon Deacon basketball teams are challenging the Wake Forest and Winston-Salem communities to a road race against cancer.
??RUN WITH THE DEACS,?? a fun-run and race to raise money for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund Drive at Wake Forest, will be held Friday, September 27th at 4 p.m. on campus in conjunction with Varsity Club Weekend Festivities.
The staffs and players of both men??s and women??s basketball teams will lead all participants on a 5K run/one mile walk on the University cross country course. The general public is invited ?V as runners, walkers or spectators.
The entry fee for participants is $15.00 with all money being donated to the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund Drive in memory of a great Wake Forest athlete/alum and Chicago Bear star who died of cancer. This fall marks the twenty-third year of the student-initiated Piccolo Drive with over $572,000 raised to directly support the research and treatment of cancer through the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University. Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, the WFU Running Club, and ROCK 92 are co-sponsoring the ??RUN WITH THE DEACS?? event.
Pre-registration for the event is being handled through the Student Development Office, 317 Benson Center (336 -758-5921) with day-of-event registration at the Water Tower Field at 3:00 p.m. Each participant will receive a ??RUN WITH THE DEACS?? NIKE t-shirt and be eligible for additional prizes to be awarded to the top three finishers in four separate men??s and women??s age divisions.
