
Martzolf Picked In Preseason Poll

SKILLMAN, N.J. - David Loewenthal and Derrick Spice from the Wake Forest men's tennis team and Katie Martzolf from the Wake Forest women's tennis team were selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) to the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings preseason singles poll on Monday. Loewenthal a junior from Franklin Lakes, N.J., was picked 28th and Spice, a sophomore from North Olmsted, Ohio, is tied for 97th in the preseason men's singles rankings. Martzolf, a sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind., is listed 75th in the preseason women's singles rankings.
Loewenthal finished last season with a 31-14 singles record, playing every dual match at the number one position. He was ranked 43rd in the final singles rankings. Martzolf finished last season 20-18 in singles play, working mostly at the number four position. She was ranked 110th in the final singles rankings. Spice finished last season with a school record-breaking 36-13 singles record, playing most dual matches at the No. 3 spot. He was named the ACC Rookie of the Year (7-1 in conference play) and earned All-ACC honors.
Five letterwinners and three starters return from the Demon Deacon women's squad that finished 24-6 (8th) and 6-2 in the ACC (3rd) last year. Head coach Brian Fleishman, who enters his fifth season at the helm, will have his team begin fall action next weekend at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., Sept. 20-22.

Head coach Jeff Zinn, who enters his seventh season at the helm, will have his team begin fall action next weekend at the Virginia Fall Tournament in Charlottesville, Va., Sept. 20-22.
