Winston-Salem, N.C. -- Former Wake Forest centerfielder Adam Bourassa was named as a 2003 Easton Defensive Player of the Year, as selected by Collegiate Baseball magazine, the publication announced this week.
Bourassa, a native of Apple Valley, Minn. who exhausted his eligibility last spring, was chosen along with Arizona State shortstop Dustin Pedroia as one of the two best defensive players in Division I college baseball in 2003.
In June, Bourassa was drafted in the sixth round by the Texas Rangers. He spent the summer with the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League. In his two-year Wake Forest career, Bourassa was an All-American, a two-time All-ACC selection. He batted .376 for his career with 55 stolen bases and only four errors in 288 chances.
The publication described Bourassa as a "sensational NCAA Division I outfielder who made a number of spectacular catches during his career at Wake Forest. In 53 games last season, he only committed three errors and made 114 putouts. He was considered the best defensive player in the Northwest League last summer in pro baseball."
