WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The Wake Forest volleyball team wasted no time in sweeping Florida State, 3-0 on Saturday evening in Reynolds Gymnasium. The Deacs were able to rebound from Tuesday's loss to Maryland and improved their conference record to 6-4 while the Seminoles fell to 2-8 in the ACC. Eleven of Wake Forest's 16 wins in 2003 have been 3-0 sweeps.

Four different Demon Deacons hit at least .500 and had double-digit kills, including Valerie Rydberg who led the way with 15 kills, eight digs and five service aces. That was the most aces for a Wake Forest player since Rydberg recorded six against the Seminoles on October 4th. Christy Williams hit .692 with ten kills and two solo blocks while Jessica Hauff had 11 kills with a .529 percentage. Erin Borhart also racked up 11 kills to go along with her 33 assists. Head Coach Valorie Baker was impressed by what she saw from her team.

"This is the best our team has played in several weeks," said Baker. "Everybody took care of their business and gave to their teammates what they needed to win this match in three. The girls came out, executed the gameplan and maintained that throughout the match. That's something we haven't always done in the past. And doing that tonight enabled us to win."

Wake Forest jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking game one, 30-28. The score was tied 12 different times in the game, but at 27-27, two consecutive kills by Williams gave the Deacs the advantage they needed and a service error by Florida State's Kristen Rust put Wake Forest ahead for good.

Game two was another back-and-forth battle which the Deacs were able to pull out, 30-26. Wake Forest hit .385 as a team in the game compared to the Seminoles' .225. Borhart led the Demon Deacons as eight of her eleven kills came in the second game.

With a commanding 2-0 lead in the match, Wake Forest came out looking to put the Seminoles away in game three. With a 15-14 lead, Wake Forest put together a string of six consecutive points, four of which came on booming service aces of Rydberg. This gave the Demon Deacons a 21-14 lead and they never looked back. The Deacs made just one attack error in the game while hitting .500 and put Florida State away for good, 30-21.

The Demon Deacons return to action Sunday afternoon when they host the Virginia Cavaliers in Reynolds Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
