#14 Women's Soccer Loses at Maryland, 5-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland scored three goals in the opening eight minutes, including a tally just 19 seconds into the match, as the Terrapins defeated Wake Forest, 5-1, in ACC women's soccer action from Ludwig Field Saturday night. With the loss, Maryland improves to 9-6-1, 2-4-0 in the ACC, while the Demon Deacons drop to 9-5-3, 0-4-2 in the conference.
Maryland jumped on Wake Forest from the opening whistle. Ali Andrzejewski sent in a beautiful arching ball that found Jen Biscoe alone in the penalty area. Biscoe headed home her third goal of the season just 19 seconds after the opening whistle.
Andrzejewski pushed the Maryland lead to 2-0 with her fourth goal of the season at 3:02. Katie Ludwig was credited with the assist. The Terps pushed the lead to 3-0 just minutes later. Kimmy Francis scored her team leading sixth goal of the 2003 campaign at 7:15.
The game remained 3-0 until midway through the second half. The Terps would add a fourth goal at 67:21, before Taylor Toombs finally put the Deacs on the board with an unassisted goal at 72:53. The goal was Toombs' fifth of the year. Maryland would add a fifth goal at 78:26, an own goal.
Despite the final margin, Wake Forest did manage to outshoot the Terps, 16-15, but the early three goal deficit was far to much to overcome. Demon Deacon goalkeeper Kenna Healy made four saves, all in the second half.
The Demon Deacons, which are winless in their last five matches, will look to close the regular season on a positive note next Saturday, Nov. 1. Wake Forest will host North Carolina State. Kickoff at Spry Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
