WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Wake Forest needed just three games to defeat NC State on Senior Night Saturday evening at Reynolds Gymnasium, finishing the ACC regular season schedule with a victory. The Demon Deacons improved to 10-6 in conference matches and 21-8 overall. 21 wins is the most by a Wake Forest team since the 2000 season, head coach Valorie Baker's first year. With the loss, the Wolfpack fall to 7-24 overall and finished winless in the ACC at 0-16.

"It is always a plus to finish the season with a win," said Baker. "I am proud of and pleased with everyone on this team and the contributions they have made to make this a successful season."

Twelve different Wake Forest players saw playing time in the match and the Deacs were led by Valerie Rydberg's 13 kills. Jessica Hauff hit .500 with ten kills and Jenna Doane recorded a career-best six service aces. Wake Forest hit .346 as a team including a .633 mark in game three. In that game, the Demon Deacons put away 19 kills on 30 chances without commiting an attack error.

The Deacs wasted no time jumping out to an early 6-0 lead in game one thanks in part to three consecutive service aces by Kim Stern. The Wolfpack put together a brief run, cutting Wake Forest's lead to 13-11, but the Demon Deacons came right back with five straight points to rebuild their lead. Wake Forest ended game one with a 30-19 victory.

After a 30-16 win in game two, the Deacs put the finishing touches on their second sweep of NC State this season by taking game three again by a score of 30-16. The Wolfpack hit just .188 compared to Wake Forest's .633 as seven different Demon Deacons recorded at least one kill in the game. Seniors Katy de Roeck, Ashley Fisher, Sara Beth DeLisle and Hauff combined for nine of Wake Forest's 19 kills in the game.

The Wake Forest volleyball team returns to action next week when it travels to Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida for the 2003 ACC Tournament. The tournament begins on Thursday and will conclude with the championship match on Sunday afternoon.
