All-Time Series
Wake Forest and Florida State have met 10 times in the all-time series. The Demon Deacons have captured seven of those meetings and lost just one. The Seminoles and Wake Forest have tied twice, including their meeting earlier this season. The two league foes played to a scoreless draw back on Oct. 18. Prior to the matchup in 2003, Wake Forest had won the last two meetings, including last season's thrilling 3-2 double overtime triumph.
The 'Noles and Deacs have met just once in ACC Tournament play. Seventh seeded Florida State got past then second seeded Wake Forest in the 2000 ACC Tournament in penalty kicks.

Last Time Out
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Wake Forest senior Katherine Winstead scored the match's first goal and freshman Elizabeth Remy added a goal and an assist in the second half as the Demon Deacons raced past NC State, 3-0, on Senior Night at Spry Stadium Saturday night. With the victory, Wake Forest secured the seventh seed at the 2003 ACC Tournament. The Deacs will face second seed Florida State at Noon on Wednesday at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
Winstead, who made her final regular season appearance at Spry Stadium, was the benefactor of a gorgeous pass from freshman Taylor Toombs. Toombs slotted a ball behind the Wolfpack defense that allowed Winstead to go one-on-one with NC State goalkeeper Kim Selz. The senior midfielder then beat Selz to the lower left corner of the net to give Wake Forest a 1-0 lead at 15:40. It was her third goal of the season and 14th of career.
The Deacs (10-5-3, 1-4-2 ACC) continued to pressure the NC State (9-8-1, 1-6-0 ACC) for most of the night. Wake Forest, which outshot the Wolfpack 19-4, were finally awarded with a second goal at 69:03 of the match. Remy played a ball out wide to the left wing to an open Sarah Kozey. The sophomore beat a Wolfpack defender and rifled a shot toward the near post, beating Slez. The goal was Kozey's sixth of the season, which was the team-high until Remy closed the door on any NC State comeback with her sixth of the 2003 campaign at 86:15.
The 3-0 lead was more than enough for Wake Forest goalkeeper Kenna Healy. Healy, just a junior athletically, but senior academically, registered her eighth shutout of the season in her final regular season appearance at Spry. The eight shutouts are second best in single season school history. Healy has also recorded 10.5 career shutouts - moving her into a tie for third place all-time.
Scouting The Seminoles
Since the conference regular season moved to seven games after Florida State entered the ACC in 1995, only North Carolina had allowed fewer than the five goals in conference play, but the Seminoles accomplished the feat in 2003. The Tar Heels own the record for fewest goals allowed in a single season, yielding just two in 1996, 1997 and 1999. North Carolina also holds down the second spot by allowing just three goals in 1995, 1998 and 2003. In addition to UNC and FSU, Clemson (2000) is the only other teams to allow five or fewer goals in an entire conference season.
Last Meeting
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- The 12th ranked Wake Forest and 11th ranked Florida State women's soccer teams battled for 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of sudden-death overtime, but neither team was able to find the net as the Demon Deacons and Seminoles settled for a scoreless draw in ACC women's soccer action from Spry Stadium.
After a first half that saw just nine shots - five for Wake Forest and four for Florida State, the two teams picked up the pace of play in the second half. The Demon Deacons had the first real solid scoring chance just minutes after intermission. Senior Alena Thom pounced on a loose ball just outside the six yard penalty area, but sent the goal scoring attempt over the net.
Wake Forest had another quality scoring chance at 15:49 of the second stanza. Sophomore Sarah Kozey was on the end of a ball behind the Seminole defense and fired a shot toward the lower right corner of the goal, but Florida State goalkeeper Joy McKenzie deflected the ball wide of the net.
McKenzie made all the big saves for the Seminoles. Just 3:51 into the first overtime, Kozey nearly sent the crowd of 783 home happy. The forward volleyed a bouncing ball on net, but McKenzie robbed the sophomore of her team leading sixth tally. With the ball heading toward the upper far left corner, McKenzie sprawled to her right and got just enough on the blast sending it wide of the net. Freshman Elizabeth Remy collected the rebound just yards from the net, but her attempt missed high.
The Seminole netminder finished the evening with eight saves and has now gone 380:27 without surrendering a single goal. The shutout was her third on the 2003 campaign. The blanking of Wake Forest marks the fifth time this season that the Deacs have been shutout and third in four ACC matches.
Demon Deacon goalkeeper Kenna Healy was not to be out done. The junior recorded three saves, none bigger than on a blast from Amber Tollefson midway through the first half. Healy has now recorded seven shutouts this season - surpassing Beth Klein's mark of 6.5 during the 1997 season for second most ever in a single season. In only 17 career starts, Healy has registered 9.5 shutouts which is tied for fourth all-time.
Only ACC Tournament Meeting
DURHAM, N.C. --- The Wake Forest women's soccer team played No. 16 Florida State to a 1-1 tie at Koskinen Stadium in the quarterfinals of the 2000 ACC Tournament. The seventh seeded Seminoles advanced past the 22nd ranked and second seeded Demon Deacons 5-4 in penalty kicks. Wake Forest stands at 10-7-2 on the season and Florida State becomes 12-6-2 overall.
"No surprises really," said Wake Forest head coach Tony Da Luz. "We fully expected a tough game from Florida State, we just didn't finish our chances. We had a good chunk of possession but we just couldn't get over top. I think without Joline Charlton in the game we were a little down. The best thing is that the game goes down as a tie officially."
The Seminoles got on the board early, scoring three minutes into the game when Rachael Watkin connected with a pass from Summer Corum. Wake Forest evened the score just before halftime with a goal from Katherine Winstead. A freshman midfielder from Raleigh, N.C., Winstead was assisted by Colleen Bradley and Alena Thom. The goal was Winstead's first collegiate goal.
With three minutes left in regulation, Emily Taggart slammed a shot of the right post nearly breaking the 1-1 tie, but neither team was able to score, sending the match into overtime. After two sudden death 15 minute overtime periods the game concluded as a 1-1 tie. Winstead subbed in for goalkeeper to go against FSU keeper Sarah Crawford in the sudden victory penalty kick shootout. Both teams marched five players out to shoot penalty kicks. Colleen Bradley, Liz McDowell and Stacy Roeck joined starting goalkeeper Tracy Chao and Winstead herself kicked one. Still tied up after the first five kicks, 4-4, Rachael Watkin connected for Florida State and Wake Forest's Emily Taggart missed - allowing the Seminoles to advance to the semifinals on Friday.
