ATLANTA, GA.- Valerie Rydberg's 14 kills and 11 digs were not enough for Wake Forest, as the seventh-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets wrapped up a season sweep of the Demon Deacons with a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon in O'Keefe Gymnasium. Georgia Tech continued its dominant play in the ACC, improving to 14-1 while the Deacs fall to 8-6 in conference matches with the loss. The Yellow Jackets also swept Wake Forest in Winston-Salem earlier in the season on October 10.
Rydberg led Wake Forest with a .333 attack percentage but the Demon Deacons were able to hit just .165 as a team. Wake Forest's Jessica Hauff and Sara Beth DeLisle combined for 15 kills and Erin Borhart recorded 30 assists in a losing effort. Georgia Tech's Kele Eveland, the nation's leader in assists, recorded 49 assists for the Yellow Jackets and Lauren Sauer led all players with 15 kills.
The Demon Deacons hit .324 in game one, but Georgia Tech still came out on top by a score of 30-23. The Yellow Jackets wasted no time in game two, taking a 30-13 victory over the Deacs. Wake Forest hit just .048 in the game, compared to Georgia Tech's match-high .459. The Yellow Jackets committed just two attack errors, rolling easily past the Demon Deacons to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The third and final game was the closest of the match, but Georgia Tech was able to hold on and finish off Wake Forest with a 30-24 win.
The Demon Deacons return to action Friday evening with a home match against North Carolina at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Gymnasium. Wake Forest then wraps up its ACC season by hosting NC State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
