Men's Tennis Falls 4-3 at #55 Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team lost a tough away match to No. 55 Brown Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3. The Bears swept doubles play to go up 1-0 early in the match and then split six singles matches with the Demon Deacons to send 17th-ranked Wake Forest home with a 4-3 loss.

Derrick Spice, David Loewenthal and David Bere won singles matches for the Demon Deacons. Loewenthal won in straight sets, beating Brown's Chris Drake 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Spice fought past Brown's Jamie Cerretani 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4 at No. 1 and Bere took out Brown's Nick Goldberg 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

The Demon Deacons took the Bears to three sets in the remaining singles matches before falling. Wake Forest changed up its doubles lineup for the third straight match since losing Andrew Simpson, who is out with a broken foot. Loewenthal and Trent Brendon, WFU's top tandem, fell 8-4 at No. 1, Mike Murray and Brett Ross lost 8-6 to Brown's 26th-ranked pair of Goldberg and Adil Shamasdin 8-6 at No. 2 and Spice teamed up with Bere to fall 9-8 (3) at No. 3.

Wake Forest falls to 5-2 on the season with the loss and Brown improves to 4-1 with the win. The Demon Deacons return to action next weekend when they return home to host No. 47 Virginia Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
