March 25, 2003
Wake Forest senior forward Josh Howard, who helped lead the Demon Deacons to their first outright ACC regular season championship in more than 40 years, will be honored by the city and University Wednesday.
Winston-Salem mayor Allen Joines will present Howard, a first team All-American and the ACC Player of the Year, with a proclamation of "Josh Howard Day". The mayor will recognize Howard's achievements on the court, in the classroom and his many contributions to the community. The Wake Forest band, cheerleaders, students, and fans will be in attendance to share this honor.
Howard, a Winston-Salem native and a graduate of Glenn High School, was named the ACC Player of the Year on March 18. He was the first unanimous selection for that honor since NC State's David Thompson in 1975. Howard was previously named first team All-American and is the first Deacon player to earn that honor since Tim Duncan in 1996 and 1997.
