#30 Texas Slips By Wake Forest 4-3

AUSTIN, Texas - The Wake Forest women's tennis team lost 4-3 Sunday afternoon to No. 30 Texas at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons won two of three doubles matches to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead, but the Longhorns won four of six singles matches to rally for the 4-3 victory. Karin Coetzee led the Wake Forest effort with wins at both singles and doubles.
Coetzee teamed with Aimee Smith to upset the 20th-ranked Texas tandem Kendra Strohm and Ziva Grasic 8-6 and then she picked up a straight set victory at No. 2 singles, beating Michelle Krinke 6-1, 6-2.
Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz won the No. 2 doubles match for the Deacs, posting an 8-4 victory over Longhorns Lindsay Blau and Kelly Baritot. Martzolf, playing at No. 1 singles for the first time all season, lost 6-3, 6-4 to 63rd-ranked Strohm.
Sandie Knight, Wake Forest's lone freshman, earned her second straight come-from-behind victory, defeating Macey Breece 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. Schwartz and Elizabeth Proctor both took their Longhorn opponents to three sets before falling.
Wake Forest drops to 1-17 with the loss and Texas improves to 8-6 with the win. The Demon Deacons return to action on Tuesday, April 1, when they return home to host No. 8 North Carolina, 3:30 p.m. at Leighton Stadium.
