WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 27th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated No. 41 North Carolina 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Leighton Stadium. The Demon Deacons won two of three doubles matches to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead and then won three of five singles matches to send the Tar Heels home with a 4-2 loss. Trend Brendon, Mike Murray and Brett Ross led Wake Forest with wins at singles and doubles.

Ross teamed up with Derrick Spice to earn an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over North Carolina's Trystan Meniane and Greg Archer. Murray and Brendon beat Nicholas Monroe and Daniel Pinchbeck 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Brendon made quick work of Andy Metzler, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Murray fought past Pinchbeck 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. David Bere sealed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Derek Porter at No. 3 singles. With the match already decided and Ross up 5-4 in the first set, Geoff Boyd quit.

Wake Forest improves to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the ACC with the win and North Carolina falls to 7-8, 0-3 with the loss. The Demon Deacons return to action on Friday, April 4, when they host No. 32 Clemson at 4:30 p.m. in Leighton Stadium.
