Former Wake Forest volleyball standout Trina Maso de Moya, has made the roster for the Women's United Soccer Association's Philadelphia Charge. Maso de Moya, an athletic 6-0 forward from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., graduated from Wake Forest in 2002 and then went to graduate school at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. A multi-sport athlete at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Maso de Moya decided to concentrate on one sport at Wake Forest and took the full scholarship that volleyball had available.
A four-year starting outside hitter for the Demon Deacons, Maso de Moya was unarguably the most prolific player in the history of Wake Forest volleyball. The school's all-time leader in kills, attempts, kills-per-game, service aces, digs and digs-per-game, Maso de Moya holds school season records for kills, kills-per-game, digs, digs-per-game, as well as single match records for kills and digs. She was the 2000 ACC Player of the Year, a three-time first-team All-ACC selection, three-time all-district selection and was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Volleyball Team celebrating the top 50 players in the conference's first 50 years. Maso de Moya is the ACC's all-time leader in digs and digs-per-game and ranks fourth in the ACC's career records for kills and kills-per-game. She led the conference in digs-per-game all four years and led the league in aces-per-game as a senior.
At Florida Atlantic as a graduate student, Maso de Moya joined the women's soccer team and scored a team-leading 19 goals to rank 10th nationally and first in Atlantic Sun Conference. She also added three assists for 41 points, which set a school record. Maso de Moya earned first-team All-Atlantic Sun honors.
In high school Maso de Moya was a two-time Broward County Female Athlete of the Year by the Miami Herald (1996, 1997) and was a Florida all-state volleyball selection her junior and senior seasons. The team's MVP in 1996 and 1997, she was named the Broward County volleyball player of the year in both her junior and senior seasons. Maso de Moya was a standout in soccer where she was an ODP player in 1997. She led the country in scoring for two consecutive years with 41 goals and 30 assists as a junior and with 43 goals and 29 assists as a senior. Leading St. Thomas Aquinas' soccer team to five-consecutive state championships and a 104 game unbeaten streak, Maso de Moya was a three-year first-team all-state selection in soccer and was the Miami Herald player of the year in both 1996 and 1997.
