JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Wake Forest senior Bill Haas, the nation??s top-ranked collegiate golfer in the preseason rankings, lived up to his billing by capturing medalist honors at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges on Sunday with a 10-under par 206.
Haas brings home the individual title from this event for the second straight year. After finishing in a five-way tie for first place last year, Haas won the 2003 title outright by a four-stroke margin.
It is Haas?? sixth career individual title, and he won it with three straight rounds under par (67-68-71). The 206 is his fourth-lowest tournament score, three strokes shy of his career-best 203 set in 2002. He recorded 19 birdies during the 54-hole event.
??It??s a great honor to win this tournament, I??m just sorry I can??t come back again next year,?? said Haas. ??This is definitely a great way to start my last year of college golf, but I??m disappointed our team didn??t play better. We have a young team and that??s a lot of pressure to put on freshmen, but they got their feet wet and they??ll get better.??
