JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Wake Forest senior Bill Haas, the nation??s top-ranked collegiate golfer in the preseason rankings, lived up to his billing by capturing medalist honors at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges on Sunday with a 10-under par 206.

Haas brings home the individual title from this event for the second straight year. After finishing in a five-way tie for first place last year, Haas won the 2003 title outright by a four-stroke margin.

It is Haas?? sixth career individual title, and he won it with three straight rounds under par (67-68-71). The 206 is his fourth-lowest tournament score, three strokes shy of his career-best 203 set in 2002. He recorded 19 birdies during the 54-hole event.

??It??s a great honor to win this tournament, I??m just sorry I can??t come back again next year,?? said Haas. ??This is definitely a great way to start my last year of college golf, but I??m disappointed our team didn??t play better. We have a young team and that??s a lot of pressure to put on freshmen, but they got their feet wet and they??ll get better.??

As a team, the Demon Deacons finished eighth in their season opener, carding a three-round total of 17-over 881. Tied for third heading into Sunday??s final round, WFU finished the day at 11-over 299. The Deacs finished four strokes back of seventh-place Oklahoma and two strokes ahead of ninth-place Georgia Tech. Florida took home team champion honors with a 10-under 854. TCU was second at -5, the only other team to finish under par. Defending national champion Clemson tied for third with Southern Cal at seven-over,

Sophomore Kyle Reifers tied for 41st with a seven-over 223 (74-72-77). In their collegiate debut, a pair of Deacon freshmen finished tied for 55th. Sean Moore and Chris Wilcox both ended up with a 10-over 226. Moore carded rounds of 76-73-77 while Wilcox finished with 76-76-74.

WFU sophomore Alex Yates tied his collegiate low with a 77 in Sunday??s final round, and finished 92nd with a 27-over 243 (84-82-77). Junior Doug Manchester, competing as an individual, tied for 89th at 25-over (76-84-81).

The two-day, 54-hole event was contested on the The Ridges par 72, 7,147-yard layout.
