Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team opens the 2003 fall season this weekend at the 2003 St. Mary's Health System Women's Tennis Classic. In addition to the Demon Deacons, the three-day event will feature teams from Furman, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Wake Forest finished a disappointing 4-22 last season, including 1-7 in the ACC. The 22-losses and eighth place finish in the conference were both all-time lows for the Deacons, but the return of all six letterwinners leave the expectations high for 2003-04.

Wake Forest returns seniors Aimee Smith and Elizabeth Proctor, juniors Karin Coetzee, Katie Martzolf, Danielle Schwartz and sophomore Sandie Knight. The Demon Deacons also welcome three highly touted freshmen. Ashlee Davis, Alexandra Hirsch and Blakely Offutt give Wake Forest the depth needed to challenge for an ACC title.

Play starts each day at 8 a.m. Full Results will be available on wakeforestsports.com.
