Women's Tennis Signs A Pair

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest women's tennis coach Brian Fleishman announced that Jenna Loeb and Nicole Shabaz have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis for the Demon Deacons in the fall of 2004.
Loeb, a native of Ossining, N.Y., is a three-time New York State Champion. Loeb is the top-ranked player in the Eastern Region and 49th in the entire country. Loeb captured the ETA Segment III singles championship, reached the semifinals of the 2003 Copper Bowl Singles Tournament and the quarterfinals of the Super National Clay Courts Doubles Championship. Loeb was also awarded the ETA Sportmanship Award under-16 girls.
"Jenna is a great fit for Wake Forest and we are a great fit for her," said Fleishman. "She is an amazing person and player. She will help us achieve our goal of winning an ACC Championship and NCAA Title."
Shabaz, a native of Fairfax, Va., is the 25th ranked player in the entire country. Shabaz captured the singles title of the First Caribbean International Bank Championship. Shabaz was a singles finalist at the IBM International, as well as doubles' finalist for the USTA International Hard Courts, First Caribbean International Bank Championship and Panama Bowl.
"Nicole will be an impact player at Wake Forest and throughout college tennis," said Fleishman. "She will contribute to the team's success in singles and doubles. Nicole knows how to win. She will work hard on the court and in the classroom. "
Wake Forest will open its 2004 spring season on Jan. 31 at Leighton Tennis Stadium against Charlotte. Match time is noon.
