WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Elizabeth Remy tallied two goals off just four shots, helping the Wake Forest women's soccer team storm past the Miami Hurricanes, 5-0, Sunday at Spry Stadium. With the victory, the Deacs improve to 8-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the ACC, while Miami falls to 2-8-0 and 1-6 in the conference.
The Deacons opened up the game in a competitive fashion, with Jayme Liegh Cargnoni putting the ball behind the Hurricane keeper just 40 seconds after the whistle. Sarah Kozey earned the assist, her fourth of the season, by bringing the ball down and finding Cargnoni with a low cross at the far post.
Just minutes later at the 6:09 mark, junior Melanie Schneider gave Remy the ball from just outside the corner of the box where she knocked the ball into the back of the cage for her first tally of the game, putting the Deacs up by two. Continuing to dominate, Remy was gave the Deacs a little bit more of a cushion at the 18 minute mark with another goal that came from a pass by senior Alli Hunt. The goal marks Remy's fifth of the season and 11th career, while the assist for Hunt is her second of the season and 12 of her career.
Schneider opened the scoring in the second stanza for the Deacs in the 66th minute, as she took a shot that was deflected by Alex Alford, the Hurricane goalie. Off the rebound, Schneider fired off another shot and was successful, putting Wake Forest up by four.
Sophomore Kristen Kemp solidified the Deacons victory with another goal less than two minutes later as she took a pass from freshman Laura Colven and injected it past the keeper in the 67th minute. The goal for Kemp is her second of the season, while the assist for Colven is her second
Freshman Heather Currie picked up her fifth win of the season, playing 60 minutes and notching three saves between the rails, while junior Kelly Wilson defended the net for the final 30 with one save. For the Hurricanes, Alex Alford took home the loss in 66 minutes of action.
