CONWAY, S.C. - Wake Forest jumped out to an early first-half lead on goals from junior Justin Moose and senior Amir Lowery then held off a late Coastal Carolina surge to give the 16th-ranked Demon Deacons a 2-1 victory in men's college soccer action from CCU Soccer Stadium Tuesday night. The victory is the third consecutive for Wake Forest since dropping three straight last month.

After taking just over 100 minutes to score the game's only goal Sunday afternoon in the double overtime victory over NC State, the Demon Deacons wasted little time against Coastal Carolina. Lowery scored his first goal of the season at 11:10 of the opening half. Moose and Lowery worked a beautiful give-and-go inside the Chanticleer penalty area. Lowery got behind the Coastal Carolina back line and beat goalkeeper Aaron Weant inside the far right corner of the net. The goal was Lowery's first since Oct. 19 of last season in a 3-2 victory at Clemson.

Moose got in on the scoring just under three minutes after Lowery's goal. The midfielder intercepted a mishandled ball by the Coastal Carolina defense and netted his fifth goal of the season at 14:03 of the first-half. Moose has now scored in three consecutive matches after not finding the net in the previous three games. With his earlier assist, Moose moved into a tie for eighth place with Ben Stafford (17) on the all-time assist mark.

Wake Forest could have easily taken a four or five goal lead into halftime, but the Demon Deacons hit the Chanticleers' post twice in the opening 45 minutes. The Deacs have now drilled the post four times in the last two matches. Wake Forest outshot Coastal Carolina, 9-1, before halftime.

The Demon Deacons had more great scoring chances in the second-half to add some insurance, but Wake Forest was unable to push the lead past 2-0. The Chanticleers did make the match interesting late in the second-half with a goal from Boyzzz Khumalo in the 80th minute, but Demon Deacon goalkeeper Brian Edwards made the lead stand.

The redshirt freshman nearly recorded his fourth career shutout and second consecutive. Before the goal late in the second-half, Edwards and Wake Forest had gone 236:52 without yielding a single goal, a span that dated back to a first-half goal from Maryland back on Oct. 2. Edwards was not forced to make a save until the second-half.

Wake Forest returns to action this Friday evening against Loyola Marymount. Kickoff is scheduled for Spry Stadium at 7 p.m.
