BLACKSBURG, Va. - Wake Forest used a pair of second-half goals from sophomore Wells Thompson and senior Scott Sealy, while redshirt freshman Brian Edwards recorded his third straight shutout as the ninth-ranked Demon Deacons blanked Virginia Tech, 2-0, in ACC soccer action from Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium Tuesday night. With the victory, Wake Forest extended its winning streak to a season-best seven matches and improved to 10-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the ACC.

The Demon Deacons dominated the flow of play from the opening whistle, but were not rewarded with a goal until the 61st minute. With his back to the goal, Sealy laid the ball off to Solle just outside the Virginia Tech (8-8-0, 1-4-0 ACC) penalty area. Solle then slotted the ball to an unmarked Thompson, who fired a shot past Hokie goalkeeper Chase Harrison. The assist was Solle's team-leading seventh for Wake Forest.

The game remained 1-0 until Sealy struck in the 76th minute. Edwards bombed a punt into the Hokies midfield third where senior Tomy Szczypiorski won the ball in the air and flicked it behind the Virginia Tech defense where Sealy broke free. The Petit Valley, Trinidad went one-on-one with Harrison and buried his 12th of the season and 38th of his career. With the goal and assist Tuesday evening, Sealy not only moves into sole possession of third place on the all-time points chart (94), but also passes former All-American Jeremiah White for second place in career goals.

The two-goals were more than enough for Edwards and the rest of the Wake Forest defense. The goaltender posted his sixth shutout of the season and dropped his goals against average to 0.89. In fact, Edwards has not allowed a goal in 334:11 -- a span dating back to the first half of the 3-1 victory over Loyola Marymount on Oct. 15. In all, Edwards has allowed just two goals in the past 603:02 -- good for a 0.30 goals against average.

The Demon Deacons outshot the Hokies, 14-6. Wake Forest has held an advantage in shots over their last 10 opponents. On the season, Wake Forest has outshot their foes 234-114.

The Demon Deacons now turn their attention on the North Carolina Tar Heels. Wake Forest will travel to Chapel Hill for a huge ACC match Sunday afternoon. Kickoff at Fetzer Field is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Demon Deacons trail the all-time series, 18-5-6. Wake Forest has one only one time against North Carolina in Chapel Hill over 13 meetings.
