WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - - The Wake Forest women's soccer team will open the 2004 ACC Tournament against the Duke Blue Devils at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The entire tournament will take place at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
The Demon Deacons closed out the regular season with a 10-5-2 overall record and a 4-4-1 conference mark, which is good for a fifth place finish. Duke closed out the regular season with a 12-6 overall record and a 5-4 ACC mark for the fourth seed. If the Deacs win, they will face the winner of the Maryland (#8)/North Carolina (#1) game.
Earlier this season, the Blue Devils defeated the Deacs, 0-2 increasing its series winning steak to five. Junior Sarah Kozey was able to get four shots on Duke, but goals by Casey McCluskey and Rebecca Moros gave the Blue Devils the shutout.
Currently, the overall series record between the two teams stands with the Deacs trailing, 3-9-1. The last time that Wake Forest defeated Duke was Oct. 11, 1998, a 4-1 victory at Spry Stadium. This will mark the first neutral meeting between the two teams and first tournament meeting.
