Deacons Demolish Netherlands

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team ushered in the Mike Petersen era with a dominating victory over the Team Netherlands traveling squad by a score of 100-49 on Friday night. Six different Deacons reached double figures in the effort.
The up-tempo Demon Deacons raced out to a 35-4 lead in the first 14:30 of the game, highlighted by a 21-point unanswered streak over a 10 minute span. Wake Forest held Team Netherlands to just 5-of-22 (22.7%) shooting in the opening half.
Junior Liz Strunk led all scorers with 18 points, while adding five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Cotelia Bond-Young scored 17 points for the Deacs on 7-for-11 shooting. The junior added eight boards, six assists and five steals.
Redshirt sophomore Porsche' Jones scored 12 points, had five assists and had a game high seven steals for Wake Forest. For the game, the Demon Deacons had 18 steals. Senior Erin Ferrell scored 11 and sophomore Maya Bennett and senior Jennifer Johnson each added 10 points in the winning effort.
"I thought our effort was really good," said Petersen, "Our team made a positive statement about who they are and how they will play this season."
For the game, the Deacons shot 54.7 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from three, while limiting Team Netherlands to 33.9 percent and 26 turnovers.
The Deacons open the season next Friday, Nov. 19, at Hampton. The home opener will be on Nov. 26 against the Princeton Tigers at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
