WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Erin Borhart put up 50 assists, 16 digs and 10 kills for her sixth triple double of the season and freshman Michael Faulkner earned her first career double-double, leading the Wake Forest women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-25, 30-26, 25-30, 30-24) victory over Virginia Tech, in the final home match of the season, Saturday night in Reynolds Gym. The Deacs will enter next weekends ACC Tournament with a 12-15 overall record and 4-12 mark in the conference.

Wake opened up the first game going head to head with the Hokies for the first eight points, but at the 4-4 mark, the Deacs went on a 8-2 run, giving them a five point advantage. Virginia Tech answered back at the 18-14 mark with a four point scoring run of its own, to tie the game. A kill by Kim Stern and a service ace by Borhart helped Wake gain its lead back. Closing out the game with a kill by Borhart and two by Lauren Peterson, the Deacs took game one, 30-25.

Virginia Tech and Wake Forest battled nine times for the lead in the beginning of the second, until the 12-13 mark when a three point run gave the Hokies a small lead. Fighting to take the advantage, the Deacs tied it up again at 20 all and again 21-21. From that point, a kill by Borhart and attack errors by the Hokies gave Wake a small lead. Holding onto it, the Deacs were able to take the second game 30-26.

In the third game, the Hokies went on an early 4-1 lead, but the Deacs managed three straight kills to knot the score at six all. Going back and forth 11 more times, no team took more than a three point advantage until the 24-25 mark when Collette Ramirez came to the line and served for five points to eventually give the Hokies the game, 30-25.

The battle for the lead continued again in the fourth game, with the two teams knotting the score 16 times. Taking the lead with a 7-1 run ending at 27-22, Christy Williams was able to end the match for the Deacs with a powerful kill at 29-24, and then a solo block to solidify the win.

Defensively, the Deacs had an outstanding night, with four athletes in double-digit digs, including Klarysa Henry with the team-high 22. Faulkner was not far behind with 17 of her own, to go with 16 kills. Williams added to the Deacs defensive stats with two block solos and four assists.

The Demon Deacons will next look to the ACC tournament, Nov. 18-21 in Charlottesville, Va. The brackets will be announced by the conference on Monday.
