Recap | Final Stats | Notes

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser

On the game

"I have been doing this for 30 years and have never been a part of a game that the final score is less indicative of the caliber of play and the closeness of the game. Coach Hobbs had those boys well prepared and well coached. Our students are doing a great job and the crowd is excellent. We didn't play as succinctly as we would have liked but I told the kids to enjoy this and we will deal with the shortcomings tomorrow."

On the use of the triangle defense

"I attribute all of that to my staff. They pointed out that GW was scoring on every play that we played man to man. We have practiced man to man every day for the past 25 days and didn't play the triangle until two day ago. I am blessed to have such an incredible coaching staff."

On the defensive effort

"It was gratifying that we won the game on defense. It was disappointing that it was this type though. I think and hope our players are disappointed too, we must get much better at guarding."

On Eric being out of foul trouble

"I think he is at his lowest weight right now. He gets more lift and he gets there more quickly and is therefore more effective.

On Vytas being more consistent

"I really want him to go out on a high note. This season is about the seniors leaving on a positive note."

Wake Forest Players

Chris Paul

On the game

"It was our first game of the season. I thought we played together tonight. We still have a lot of work to do, but we came out hard tonight. George Washington is a very good team and our scout team did a good job in practice this week getting us prepared for the week. I think we handled it pretty well."

On the pace of the game

"Coach always tells me going into every game to be more assertive and aggressive. When we get down or get a huge lead, he tells me to be an extension of him on the court."

Eric Williams

On the game...

"Coach wants us to be a fast paced team and Chris displayed that a lot tonight. As soon as he gets the ball he goes right to the basket. We did a pretty good job tonight."

George Washington Coach Karl Hobbs

On Chris Paul

"They said he is the best and he is the best. Paul just took the game over. He penetrated to the teeth of our defense. When they needed to make a big play he was the one that made it. He is a special player. He has a great ability to change speeds and to control the pace of the game. He has a feel for when he needs to make the big play."

On the game

"What hurt us was that we gave up too many lay-ups. When a team shoots 58 percent and the are picked by many to go to the final four you are usually going to end up losing. Our guys lost their composure and we had too many turnovers."

On Wake Forest

"This is an excellent basketball team. They have faced good teams in and out. When they needed to score, they did and we couldn't do that."

George Washington Forward Mike Hall

On Wake Forest

"They are very talented. You can't simulate their speed until you are out there playing them. When they went in the triangle in two that point was a swing of momentum. We didn't get anything going after that, so it affected us. We need to work on execution and playing with discipline. We have to learn from our mistakes and play with confidence."
