
College Golf's Finest Compete At Bryan Park This Weekend

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - Several of the top-ranked teams in women's collegiate golf converge on the Triad this weekend for the seventh annual Bryan National Collegiate, co-hosted by UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest. The three-day, 54-hole tournament takes place April 2-4 at Bryan Park Champions Course, a Rees Jones-designed layout. The course measures 6,064 yards for this weekend's event and is a par 72.
Action gets underway with a practice round Thursday, April 1, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Competition begins Friday morning with teams teeing off from 8:30 a.m. to 10:43 a.m. at holes No. 1 and No. 10. Second-round tee times are the same on Saturday, with Sunday's final round featuring a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. Admission to the Bryan National Collegiate is free and spectators are welcome.
Eighteen teams are competing this weekend, including five in-state programs and 12 teams currently ranked among the nation's top 25. The ACC's "Big Four" as well as UNCG represent the home state. The Blue Devils, ranked No. 1 in both the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings and the NGCA coaches' poll, will by vying for its fourth consecutive and fifth overall Bryan title. Other nationally-ranked participants competing in this year's Bryan include Ohio State (3), Georgia (4), Vanderbilt (7), Oklahoma State (8), Auburn (11), Florida (13), Tulane (15), Wake Forest (19), North Carolina (20), Tennessee (22) and Furman (23). Three other participating programs, South Carolina (26), Purdue (46) and Virginia (49), are ranked among the top 50 in the country. In addition, 25 of the top 50 players in the individual rankings hail from schools in this year's Bryan field.
"We are again pleased to have an extremely strong field for the Bryan National Collegiate," Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey said. "Fans will have the opportunity to watch five of the top ten ranked teams, including number one Duke. In addition, they can also see Liz Janangelo, the number one ranked collegiate player, as well as defending U.S. Amateur Champion Virada Nirapathpongporn. Most of the top teams in the East will be competing and the tournament will be a good preview for the NCAA East Regional. It should be a very exciting weekend."
