Rock Hill, S.C. -- In the first game of a doubleheader in Rock Hill, S.C., Wake Forest saw its six-game winning streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to Winthrop. The Deacons stranded 11 runners on base and couldn't lend enough run support to Justin Keadle. The Deacon starter threw a complete game with seven strikeouts.
Wake Forest had the tying runs in scoring position in the ninth inning, but couldn't even the score.
Kevin Slowey got the win for Winthrop. He pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. Chris Leroux earned his second save.
