WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The 27th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 14th-ranked Texas on Tuesday afternoon at Leighton Tennis Stadium. The Longhorns improved to 15-3 on the season while the Demon Deacons are now 9-9 overall.

Texas grabbed the early lead after taking two of three doubles matches to begin the afternoon. At No. 1, Katherin Ruckert and Kendra Strohm teamed up for an 8-6 win over Wake's Ashlee Davis and Katie Martzolf. The Longhorns' pairing of Petra Dizdar and Mia Marovic then handled Danielle Schwartz and Aimee Smith, 8-4 at No. 2, clinching the 1-0 lead.

On the singles side, Texas continued its strong play, taking four of the six contests. Coetzee, ranked 26th in the nation for the Deacs, cruised past #18 Dizdar, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and Smith finished the day off with a straight-set victory over Ristine Olson at No. 6, but the Longhorns were too much to handle in the other singles positions, dropping just one set in the four victories.

The Demon Deacons will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Raleigh for an ACC match against NC State at 2:30 pm.
